A bar ethics complaint has been filed against New York Attorney General Letitia James for allegedly making prejudicial statements about the “Cornell 7” in the days before being appointed special prosecutor to look into criminal charges for the Ivy’s Chi Phi frat members, The Post has learned.
Two days before she was appointed special prosecutor to reopen an investigation into a 2024 alleged gang rape at Cornell University’s Chi Phi house, James posted on social media: “What this young woman has been forced to endure is horrific and unacceptable.”
“To her, and to all survivors: you’re not alone. We stand with you,” she wrote in the Sept. 28 post on X.
By showing whose accounts of the drug-fueled night of partying she believed — before even beginning to investigate — James compromised herself, argued the Washington, DC-based National Legal and Policy Center, which filed the complaint.
“It is clear that she must recuse herself from having anything to do with this case to preserve the impartiality and integrity of any investigation and prosecution,” according to the complaint filed in New York State Supreme Court.
James should either recuse herself from the case, or be removed, said the nine-page complaint filed to the court’s Attorney Grievance Committee.
“The violation is flagrant, obvious and therefore shocking,” said legal ethicist Jack Marshall, whose expert witness report was included with the complaint.
“I find it remarkable that the top lawyer in the state of New York could possibly be so unfamiliar
with the professional ethics standards of her own state, which have the force of law.”
James’ statement “raises suspicion of a rigged, pre-determined and illicit investigation,” Marshall said.
“Letitia James has exhibited a clear bias in favor of Jane Doe’s allegations and against the Chi Phi defendants,” Paul Kamenar, counsel to the National Legal and Policy Center, told The Post.
“In doing so, she has blatantly violated the ethical rules of professional conduct and cannot serve as a special prosecutor in this case.”

An Austrian opposition party is demanding answers over a reported 200 kg shipment transported through the country by Ukrainian intelligence without any checks

A scandal is brewing in Austria over a secret Ukrainian intelligence shipment reportedly allowed to cross the country unchecked, with opposition politicians demanding to know what it contained and who authorized its passage.
A Volkswagen van belonging to Ukrainian intelligence carried 200 kg of undeclared “special cargo” through Austria in January, Kronen Zeitung reported on Saturday.The shipment was reportedly linked to the Ukrainian delegation attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky was present.
The case emerged after the right-wing opposition Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) obtained a diplomatic note requesting permission for the van to cross Austrian territory. The Foreign Ministry later confirmed the note’s existence in response to a parliamentary inquiry, according to the outlet.
The cargo reportedly passed through Austria without customs clearance or security screening. Its contents remain unknown.
FPO Secretary-General Christian Hafenecker demanded to know what Ukrainian intelligence transported and why the authorities allowed it.
“What was in those 200 kilograms? Cash, gold, weapons, documents, or something else entirely?” he asked, as cited by the newspaper. “Austria is not a lawless transit corridor for foreign intelligence services. We are still a neutral state!”
Asked about the shipment, the Foreign Ministry declined to elaborate, telling Kronen Zeitung it receives hundreds of diplomatic notes daily and that it forwarded the request to the Interior Ministry.
The FPO plans another parliamentary inquiry to determine who authorized the shipment, why it escaped inspection, and what it contained.
A transit hub for Kiev’s billions?
Hafenecker alreadyquestioned the authorities over suspicious shipments to Ukraine earlier this year.
In May, he demanded that the Finance Ministry explainhow nearly $22 billion in cash and gold has been transported from Austria to Kiev since 2022 without triggering money-laundering concerns or regulatory scrutiny. The figure emerged from an FPO parliamentary inquiry to Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer, whichrevealed 1,011 cash export declarations for shipments from Vienna to Kiev from 2022-2026.
Hafenecker noted Austria’s anti-money-laundering rules, which require individuals withdrawing as little as €12,000 ($13,400) from inherited accounts to prove the money’s origin, while anyone crossing the EU’s external border with more than €10,000 in cash must declare it.
The Austrian Financial Market Authority described the shipments at the time as routine banking operations,citing Ukraine’s widespread use of foreign currencies. Hafenecker nevertheless demanded full disclosure of the transfers, a regulatory audit, and a parliamentary report from Austria’s Money Laundering Reporting Office.
His Euroskeptic FPO party previously ==demanded an end to Austrian financial aid to Ukraine, branding the country a corrupt “bottomless pit” amid high-level embezzlement scandals.
Kiev’s ‘war mafia’ cash convoy in Hungary
Hafenecker’s demands in May followed a separate scandal over cash and gold shipments transiting Hungary en route to Ukraine.
The diplomatic row erupted in March when the Hungarian authorities seized two trucks belonging to Ukraine’s state-owned Oschadbank near Budapest, confiscating $40 million, €35 million, and 9 kg of gold in a money-laundering investigation. The shipment originated from Austria’s Raiffeisen Bank.
Hungary said the convoy was supervised by a former general of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), with other escorts reportedly having military backgrounds.All seven were deported to Ukraine, and the vehicles and assets remained in Hungarian custody. Kiev called theseizure “state banditism” and blackmail.
The Hungarian authorities questioned the money’s origin and purpose. Then-Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto suggested thatthe convoy could be linked to a Ukrainian “war mafia”and raised suspicions that the cash was intended to influence Hungary’s April 12 parliamentary elections against then-Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a longtime critic of Kiev.
Hungary ultimately returned the seized assets in May, after Orban lost the election to Peter Magyar’s pro-EU Tisza party. Kiev maintained that the shipment was a routine bank transferbut did not publicly explain the origin of the assetsor why such a large sum was being transported through Hungary.
